A moment of unexpected vibrancy blooms on centuries-old stonework, where old world craftsmanship carries a burst of living color along a tucked-away street in Regensburg.

Title: Blumen in der Witwe

Subtitle: A place for color

Reference: Regensburg window, historic stone frame, Bavarian architecture, flower box window, medieval street detail, European facade

Artist’s Statement:
Set into a weathered facade, this architectural niche reveals a delicate balance between permanence and renewal. The stone frame, carved with intention and endurance, bears the marks of time—subtle erosion, softened edges, and a presence that has survived generations. Within this enduring structure, a simple planter overflows with vivid blooms, introducing a flash of brilliance that contrasts the solidity around it.

The composition reflects a dialogue between past and present, where human craftsmanship provides a stage for living expression. The flowers do not disrupt the structure; they complete it—softening its austerity and bringing warmth to its aged surface.

On a back street in Regensberg, these beautiful flowers on stark stone window sill caught my eye.  What spoke to me was pots in which the flowers grow—stone pots, built into the sill by some craftsman centuries ago.  I wondered if that stone mason was just doing his job, or whether he understood that he was placing an obligation on the future.  Either way, his work endures - history embedded in the details...

Summary:
A historic Regensburg window framed in carved stone comes alive with vibrant flowers, blending Old World architecture with a refreshing burst of natural color—perfect for adding warmth and character to refined interior spaces.
