According to Ojibwa legend the "spiderweb" protective charms help the Spider Woman take care of the children and the people on the land. As the Ojibwe Nation spread across North America it became difficult for Spider Woman to reach all the children, so the mothers and grandmothers woove webs for the children to help her. These charms were hung on the hoop of a cradle board to catch any harm that might be in the air.

I took this picture on the shores of my beloved Chateaugay Lake over 50 years ago. It was just after dawn, when the dew shown like brilliant pearls, backlit by the rising sun.
