From an age of craftsmanship, the inner workings of his watch remain a metaphor of his life. Precise, orderly, measured in all things, yet the ticking is soft, with the patience and kindness of a man who knew what was real, and what was not. I have but to wind it...

This image peers into the hidden interior of my grandfather’s pocket watch—a timepiece once carried close, tucked into fabric and ritual, brought out with intention. Unlike a wristwatch, it was not constantly visible; it required a pause, a gesture, a moment of attention. In that way, it reflects a different relationship with time—one that was consulted rather than chased.

Inside, the gears continue their quiet labor. Worn edges and patinaed metal speak to years of handling, to the repetition of days measured not in urgency, but in steadiness. The mechanism becomes a kind of portrait—not of the object, but of the man who carried it. His habits, his patience, his sense of time all echo in these interlocking forms.
