Title: Seasons Passage

Artist’s Statement:

At first glance, the image offers something immediate and recognizable—a lone tree set against the final glow of sunset. It feels grounded, almost certain. But the longer one looks, the less stable that certainty becomes. The edges begin to shift. Forms overlap. What seemed singular begins to divide.

Flowers surface within the scene—soft presences that challenge the clarity of the silhouetted tree. The light itself refuses to settle, moving between warmth and shadow, between focus and diffusion. The image resists resolution, asking the viewer to remain rather than escape.

This work leans into contradiction. It holds stillness and motion, presence and absence, recognition and abstraction in the same frame. There is no single reading to resolve it—only layers that unfold and recede. Ambiguity becomes the central language of the piece.

What emerges is a reflection on perception: how quickly we assign meaning, and how fragile those meanings can be. Truth, here, is not delivered through clarity, but through complexity—through the willingness to engage uncertainty.

​This image is from my film collection, in 1974!  Done decades ago, it is a composite image done "the hard way".  I was exploring imagery of time and seasons - it is still one of my favorites.
