Artist’s Statement:

Coins survive long after buildings and statues are gone.  Modest and common, they were still fashioned to speak of their day - of what, or who, was thought to be important at the time.  They passed through many hands, gathering stories as they went.  These Chinese coins date from the early twentieth century - not ancient, but think of the changes they have seen.  

By isolating and enlarging these coins, their symbolic engravings transform into a visual language—one that speaks of tradition, identity, and continuity. The contrast between gold and silver hues is a metaphor for the duality of value: material worth versus cultural significance.
