A fortress of faith and myth rises from the limestone outcrop, where Ireland’s sacred past collides with its darker folklore. The Rock of Cashel stands not only as a monument to kings and clergy, but as a fragment of legend itself—torn from the earth by the Devil’s own hand.

Artist’s Statement:
There is a peculiar tension here—holiness rooted in violence, reverence born of rupture. The Rock of Cashel is among Ireland’s most revered ecclesiastical sites, yet its origin story is anything but serene. Legend tells of the Devil, mid-chase and maddened by hunger, tearing a bite from the Slieve Bloom Mountains and hurling it across the land. That fragment became this—an imposing citadel of stone, faith, and power.
Photographing the site from below emphasizes its defiance. The structure does not blend into the land; it asserts itself. The jagged limestone base feels freshly torn, as if the story might still be unfolding. Above it, the cathedral walls rise with a severity that mirrors the myth—unforgiving, immovable, eternal.
This is not a gentle landscape. It is one shaped by force—both divine and infernal—and the image leans into that duality.
