There’s a moment when the canyon reveals itself, when shadow holds as much presence as light.
Title: Carved in Shadow and Light
Subtitle: A Landscape Written by Time

Artist's Statement:
The late afternoon sun has abandoned the depths of the Grand Canyon. Across an immense wilderness of stone, isolated mesas and towering cliffs float above the shadows, their upper reaches still glowing with the last golden light of the day.
There is a wonderful sense of discovery in this landscape. Great monuments of layered stone stand in solemn procession, their weathered terraces and sheer walls bearing the marks of the incomprehensible passage of time. Wind and water have spent millions of years carving down into the depths beneath the Colorado Plateau. Their work continues, slowly and patiently, beyond the measure of human generations.
There is something deeply moving in the knowledge that this landscape is forever changing, yet remains so enduring. The great stone monuments have witnessed countless sunsets, each one briefly illuminating the work of ages.
Tomorrow, the sun will return, and the ancient stones will have new stories to tell.
