Artist’s Statement:

There are few places where time feels as visible as it does in Zion. These cliffs rise like monuments to patience—layer upon layer of sandstone shaped by wind, uplift, and the persistent work of water. The Virgin River, modest in size yet relentless in purpose, carved this vast canyon and continues to sustain an enduring green ribbon of life in its shadow.

Standing here, the contrast is striking: immense, immovable stone above, and a fragile, living ribbon of vegetation below. It’s a reminder that even in the harshest environments, life finds a way to gather, endure, and thrive.

Zion has long drawn people for that same reason. Its name, rooted in the idea of refuge, feels earned. For thousands of years, from the Ancestral Puebloans onward, this place has offered both shelter and meaning. What remains is not just a landscape, but a quiet testament to endurance, time, and renewal.

Summary:

The immense formations shelter an enduring thread green life, creating a striking contrast of color, light, and geological architecture.
