Artist’s Statement:

Set against the lush slopes of Connemara, Kylemore Abbey rises with quiet authority along the edge of Lough Pollaacapull. The stillness of the water doubles the scene, softening stone and mountain into a meditation. Originally built as Kylemore Castle between 1863 and 1868 by Mitchell Henry as a gift for his wife, the structure carries a deeply personal origin that lingers in its romantic silhouette.

Its later transformation into Ireland’s oldest Benedictine abbeys adds a profound spiritual dimension. The nuns, having fled Belgium during World War I, brought with them a legacy of resilience and devotion, establishing a community that would educate generations of girls through both an international boarding school and a local day school until 2010. That sense of purpose and continuity is embedded in the landscape itself.

Here, nature and human history coexist seamlessly. The surrounding hills cradle the abbey abovee the reflective loch. The image conveys a sense of permanence—an enduring place where culture, faith, and the Irish landscape meet.
